Description
FRANCE - FRANCE
32.2 x 22.2 cm banknote proof of the “Louis XIV” type, printed by E. Desfossés – Office Français des Papiers Fiduciaires, 1938.
P. unlisted.
This specimen comes from the CGB “Papier-Monnaie 23” sale held in October 2012.
Small tear in the top left-hand corner. SUP+.
Design featuring the bust of the Sun King to mark the tercentenary of his birth. The original format, identical to that of the 1,000-franc notes and printed on security paper, is often described as a proof but suggests instead a commemorative or promotional issue (the printer’s name, his address and his job titles, translated into English and Spanish, are detailed on it). Our copy, which is indeed a proof, is printed on watermarked banknote paper
