GAUL - CELTIC Ambiens / Belgium. Single-sided stater, with the exergue inscribed with ‘ND’ (second third of the 1st century BC and pre-Augustan period). LT.- - DT.238 - Scheers 154; Gold - 6.18 g - 17 mm - 12 h A few scratches and scuffs on the obverse. Very good condition. Single-sided staters are thought to date from the time of the Gallic Wars, up to the years 30/25 BC. J. Sills did not extend his classification to include these later single-sided gold coins, which were minted in large quantities during the Gallic Wars. The *Nouveau Atlas* illustrates nine single-sided gold staters, and S. Scheers slightly fewer, whilst J. Sills lists only two. Numerous varieties are, however, identifiable. Our specimen is highly characteristic, with an exergue line adorned with a wavy line formed of facing ball-headed torques flanked by bezants
