GAUL - CELTIC Parisii. Bronze coin featuring a horse, PAR 6, class 1c (?), previously unpublished, undated (first half of the 1st century BC). LT.7116 and cf. 7121 – DT.2504–2505 var. – IDF PAR 6 class 1 var.; Bronze – 4.73 g – 16 mm – 12 h MP specimen no. 161 in the book “Surréelles Monnaies Gauloises”, by Samuel Gouet and Marc Petit – acquired from C Burgan in 2006. Bronze struck on a wide, thick blank with clearly defined casting marks. Complete designs with a beautiful dark green patina. TTB to Superb. Although the distinction between specimens of classes 1a and 1b is fairly clear, this specimen is highly unusual; whilst the obverse corresponds to class 1b, the reverse bears, above the horse, the characteristics of both classes 1a and 1b! Particularly well-preserved, our bronze coin does indeed reproduce all the motifs supposed to appear on the reverse, but with the cross and the ring juxtaposed above the horse. This feature appears to be entirely unprecedented and could constitute a previously unrecognised Class 1c. With an average weight (across all classes) of 2.96 g, our specimen is particularly heavy
