GAUL - CELTIC Parisii. Pot with a horse and crescent, POT 27, class 1c with two rings, unpublished ND (Gallic Wars and second half of the 1st century BC). LT.7820 var – DT.682 var. – IDF POT 27 class missing; Bronze – 3.55 g – 17.5 mm – 12 h MP specimen no. 163 in the book “Surréelles Monnaies Gauloises”, by Samuel Gouet and Marc Petit – acquired from A. Weil in 2005. Potin with reliefs of great finesse. Dark green patina, very even on the reverse but slightly uneven on the obverse. Very Fine to Superb / Superb. This type of potin is more varied than it appears; our specimen is adorned with annelets on the reverse, which are absent from DT. 682. B. Foucray recently proposed three varieties for this ‘third-generation’ potin, but our variant is not included among them. Whilst the obverses are more or less the same, the reverses may be completely devoid of annelets and the small crescent (class 1a), devoid of annelets but featuring two small crescents (class 1b), or adorned with three pointed annelets (class 2). The only example of class 1b is the ‘Pont Notre-Dame’ coin, which features two crescents in the same position as the annelets on our specimen. It would therefore seem possible to propose a Class 1c, to be placed between class 1b and class 2
