GAUL - CELTIC Lower Normandy / Baïocasses. Quarter-wild boar coin, Class I with a figurative style obverse, previously unpublished variant ND (late first half of the 1st century BC and the Gallic Wars). DT. missing; Billon – 1.22 g – 14.5 mm – 2 h Exemplar MP no. 98 in the book “Surréelles Monnaies Gauloises”, by Samuel Gouet and Marc Petit – acquired from CGB in 1997, MONNAIES II, no. 356 – (Burgan VSO 37). A lovely little coin on a broad but irregular flan with perfectly centred designs. Grey, crystallised patina. TTB. The quarters in this series are rare and little-known. According to the *Nouvel Atlas*, only quarters with a geometric profile are said to exist (DT. 2265 and 2267, two coins whose distinction remains debatable). Judging by the construction of the face and the shape of the eye, however, our quarter does indeed belong to Class I with a figurative-style profile; it would therefore be previously unpublished. The orientation of the boar within the hair, if this is a relevant criterion, would bring it closer to var. 2, of which it would constitute a modular reduction
