GAUL - CELTIC Armorica / Veneti. Billon stater, Series 353A, Class IV, with a pointed, upturned snout and a wild boar facing downwards (late first half of the 1st century BC and the Gallic Wars). DT.2295 - MAN 6866-7035; Billon - 6.6 g - 23 mm - 10 h MP specimen no. 65 in the book *Surréelles Monnaies Gauloises*, by Samuel Gouet and Marc Petit – acquired from J. Creusy in 2007. A stater struck on an oval blank with well-centred designs. The obverse is softly struck, whilst the reverse is more vigorously struck. Grey patina typical of billon. Very Good to Very Good-Fine / Very Good-Fine to Superb. This specific type has long been associated with the coins of Amanlis. This hoard of perhaps 10,000 staters was discovered in 1835, but a few lots were subsequently recovered by J.-B. Colbert de Beaulieu. 310 coins from this find are now held at the Rennes Museum. The Piolaine hoard also contained a large number of coins of this type (see MAN 6866–7035). On the obverse, the neck is adorned with a Y-shaped motif, but some coins also feature a small ‘esse’ (MAN 6884), a globule (MAN 6885, 6988), a dotted ring (MAN 6920, 6953) or perhaps three globules arranged in a triangle (MAN 7020) on the cheek
