GAUL - CELTIC Durocasses. Potin with ‘cross-shaped scrolls’ or ‘decorated swastika’, Series 553 ND (first half of the 1st century BC and the Gallic Wars). LT. missing - BnF BN.7930-7932 - ABT fig. 23 - DT.2630 - Gäumann 184; Potin - 2.73 g - 17 mm - 10 h MP specimen no. 114 in the book “Surréelles Monnaies Gauloises”, by Samuel Gouet and Marc Petit – acquired from CGB in 2009, MONNAIES 38, no. 1583. Large blank with complete designs, featuring fine, consistent relief on both the obverse and reverse. Grey, lustrous patina. TTB to Superb / TTB. At least 10 specimens of this potin have been discovered at Bazoches-les-Hautes. Little known as recently as twenty years ago, more than fifty specimens have since appeared on the market, though often in poor condition and with casting defects. This specimen is undoubtedly one of the finest and most uniform we have ever seen.
