GAUL - CELTIC Durocasses. Potin of the ‘Bû type’, variant 2 with a ball-shaped hairstyle, undated (first half of the 1st century BC and the Gallic Wars). Left side missing – DT.2508A – Gäumann 184; Potin – 2.5 g – 19.5 mm – 9 h MP specimen no. 115 in the book “Surréelles Monnaies Gauloises”, by Samuel Gouet and Marc Petit – acquired from CGB in 2006, MONNAIES 26, no. 671. A potin with very fine relief on this type, which is often poorly cast. Grey-green patina on the raised areas and ochre-coloured in the recesses. Very Good to Superb. This type takes its name from the sanctuary of Bû, near Dreux (Eure-et-Loir). In 2004, the *Nouvel Atlas* already listed at least 16 examples from Les Osmeaux near Dreux. The classification of this *potin* into two varieties depends on the presence of globules between the strands of hair. By examining numerous specimens, it is possible to refine the classification; some specimens have globules only between the two upper strands, whilst others have them only between the two lower strands. The reverse appears more consistent, apart from the cross in the bottom right-hand corner, which is sometimes absent (probably due to a misplacement or a blocked mould). It is particularly interesting to note the presence of this type in the Câtillon II hoard (no. 12779).
