GAUL - CELTIC Carnutes. Bronze coin depicting a horse and a wild boar, CAR 15, previously unpublished obverse without star, ND (second half of the 1st century BC). LT. missing - DT.2454 - IDF CAR 15 missing the star in front of the mouth; Bronze - 2.76 g - 17 mm - 9 h MP specimen no. 132 in the book “Surréelles Monnaies Gauloises”, by Samuel Gouet and Marc Petit – acquired from Luger (Tours) in 2003. Bronze on a relatively large flan for this type, with a well-centred obverse and reverse. Dark green patina, somewhat uneven, particularly on the reverse. Very Good. This specific type, with no motif in front of the mouth, is missing from the latest publications. Classified under the “Northern Carnutes / Maudre-Vaucouleurs Group”, the CAR 15 bronze is divided into four classes; all of which feature a star or a dotted ring in front of the mouth. Our specimen, which has the advantage of being perfectly centred so that the bare area in front of the mouth is clearly visible, would therefore belong to a Class 5 that has not yet been documented. The star depicted on Class 4 (of which only one example is known) is therefore not so straightforward, and the obverse could be the same as that of our bronze coin
