GAUL - CELTIC Sénons - Tricasses (?). Potin with a helmeted head and a horse, variant with a blank eye, undated (1st century BC). LT.7396 var. – DT.2646 var. – IDF POT 19 var.; Potin – 2.85 g – 18.5 mm – 3 h MP specimen no. 150 in the book “Surréelles Monnaies Gauloises”, by Samuel Gouet and Marc Petit – acquired from A. Eleb – Louvre des Antiquaires, in 1996. The blank is slightly short and irregular due to breaks in the casting sprues. Grey-green patina, slightly grainy in places on the edge. Very good condition. The reverse of this coin is very similar to POT 22, without the horse’s tail and with the addition of three small globules around the one positioned above the horse. These two coins have a fairly similar area of circulation. Attribution to the Senones is traditionally accepted, but the Tricasses are serious candidates as the people responsible for this issue. This variant with the empty eye is not included in the *Nouvel Atlas*, nor in the corpus of medallions from the *Revue Archéologique d’Île-de-France*. It may indeed be a casting defect, but some medallions—which otherwise have fine relief—clearly display this characteristic.
