GAUL - CELTIC Dacia. Tetradrachm of the chinless type (Typ Kinnloser) ND (1st century BC). LT.9618 - Dembski 1144 - Flesche 720-721; Silver - 14.38 g - 25 mm - 3 h Specimen MP no. 264 in the book “Surréelles Monnaies Gauloises”, by Samuel Gouet and Marc Petit – acquired from S. Bourgey, 26 November 1997, no. 607. Wide, slightly scyphate flan with an unusually clear and almost complete obverse. Attractive, perfectly centred reverse. Grey patina, rather uneven, with darker areas. Very Good to Superb. Tetradrachms of this type are of a very distinctive style, often on a broad, slightly scyphate flan, with a reverse frequently paired with a very soft, almost smooth obverse. This specimen features a very clear head, lacking a chin, which is its defining characteristic. Other coins also share this feature, although no explanation for it seems to be possible. On this specimen, the design beneath the horse gives the impression that its legs are bound.
