FRANCE / CAPETIANS - FRANCE / ROYAL Louis XIV (1643–1715). Twelfth of a scutellum with palm leaves, 1696, S, Reims. Dy.1523 - G.119 (missing!); Silver - 2.16 g - 21.5 mm - 6 h Multiple re-issues: notably 1/16 Flandrian écu [1686–88] and 4 sols with two Ls (?) 1695. A rare case of illegal re-issues; in particular, it was forbidden to re-strike Flandrian coins. Coin twisted and then flattened, resulting in a crack. The 1696 S twelfth of an écus with palm leaves is not listed by Clairand. Only the 1694 date is known, with three examples. Very Good.
