FRANCE - FRANCE Consulate (1799–1804). Medal, National Institute of Sciences and Arts, by R. Dumarest, undated, Paris. Bramsen 279; Silver – 68.98 g – 49 mm Engraved inscription on the reverse: THOMAS RIBOUD / CORRESPONDANT. Grainy fields on the reverse. Superb. Born in 1755 in Bourg-en-Bresse, Thomas Riboud was a French magistrate and politician who served as a deputy for the Ain department on several occasions between 1791 and 1815. As a public prosecutor during the French Revolution, he distinguished himself as a pioneer in heritage preservation by saving the royal monastery of Brou from destruction. Also passionate about history and culture, he co-founded the Société d’émulation de l’Ain and was a corresponding member of several prestigious academies, including the Institut de France, where he served as a corresponding member of the History and Ancient Literature section from 1803 to 1816.
