Description
FRANCE - FRANCE Second Empire / Napoleon III (1852–1870). Set of two medals, awarded for services rendered at the Paris Universal Exhibition, by H. Ponscarme, 1867, Paris. Divo 539, 545 – Collignon 1912, 1921; Copper and silver – 160.08 g – 21.92 g – 68 and 37 mm – 12 h Inscription in relief within the cartouche on the reverse of the copper medal: ST CHAPON. Hallmark (bee) COPPER and SILVER on the edge. In a red imitation-leather and blue velvet case (one clasp missing). Superb. The case was most likely presented to Alfred Chapon (1834–1893), deputy commissioner and architect for the Commission for China, Japan, Morocco and the Regency of Tunis at the 1867 World’s Fair, who designed numerous pavilions.
