FRANCE - FRANCE MEDALS - Numismatic gallery of the kings of France. Medal, John the Good, 51st King of France, by Caqué, 1837, Paris. Collignon 1558; Copper – 78.64 g – 51.5 mm – 12 h A green stain on the obverse and some scuffing on the relief of the bust. Almost Superb. Inspired by the collection of medals of the Kings of France commissioned by de Launay, the dies for which had been engraved by Thomas Bernard in the 18th century, Armand Auguste Caqué, commissioned by Madame La Dauphine, produced the famous ‘Numismatic Gallery of the Kings of France’, a set of 73 medals which was exhibited at the Salon from 1836 to 1839
