Description
FRANCE - FRANCE MEDALS - France, Henry IV (1589–1610). Medal, Battle of Ivry, by Danfrie, 1590 (minted in the early 19th century), Paris. MdP 1828, 63 – MdP.A.65 – Jones I, 179; Copper – 61.80 g – 49.5 mm – 12 h Re-struck in the early 19th century, without a hallmark on the edge. Superb. On 14 March 1590, King Henry IV won a resounding victory at Ivry against the troops of the Catholic League led by the Duke of Mayenne. Despite being outnumbered, the royal army succeeded in crushing its opponents, thereby consolidating the king’s legitimacy on the throne of France. It was during this decisive battle that Henry IV uttered his famous historic phrase: “Rally round my white plume!”
