Description
FRANCE - FRANCE
MEDALS - France, Louis XVI (1774–1792). Medal, consolation prize awarded to the paper-maker J.-B. Réveillon by B. Duvivier, 1792, Paris.
Nocq 247 - Hennin 354; Copper – 141.77 g – 74 mm – 12 h
Heavily cleaned specimen, red in colour with no patina. Very Good Condition.
Réveillon made his fortune by producing wallpaper, an idea he had conceived whilst in England. The gold medal he received from the government in 1785 was stolen when his house was ransacked in 1789. By decree of the Assembly, it was decided to award Réveillon a new medal, using the bust of the King from the 1785 medal
