FRANCE - FRANCE MEDALS - France, Third Republic (1870–1940). Medal, French Association for the Advancement of Science, by Oscar Roty, undated (1890 design), Paris. Maz.1897, 28; Silver-plated bronze – 145.20 g – 68 mm – 12 h Inscription in relief within the cartouche on the reverse: L. J. GRUEY. BRONZE hallmark (horn) on the edge. Almost Superb. Louis-Jules Gruey was Honorary Dean, Professor of Astronomy at the Faculty of Sciences, and Director of the Besançon Observatory. For the 22nd session of the French Association for the Advancement of Science, held in August 1893 in Besançon, he drafted a report on the Besançon Observatory. It was certainly on this occasion that he was presented with this medal.
