MEDALS - France, Third Republic (1870–1940). Medal commemorating the centenary of the École Polytechnique, by Max Bourgeois, 1894, Paris.
Bronze – 151.48 g – 68 mm – 12 h
Inscription engraved in the cartouche on the reverse: FAVÉ 1873.
BRONZE hallmark on the edge. Superb condition.
Attributed to Louis Favé (1853–1922), a hygrographic engineer and son of General Idelphose Favé, who was appointed commander of the École Polytechnique in 1866. He carried out surveys in Tonkin and Madagascar, amongst other places [Annuaire du Bureau des longitudes, 1924]
