Description
FRANCE - FRANCE MEDALS - Burgundy. Medal in honour of Dr Placide Mauclaire of the Academy of Medicine, by H. Bouchard, 1925, Paris (Janvier and Berchot). Bouchard 1975, 72; Bronze – 101.40 g – 64 mm – 12 h To mark his admission to the Academy of Medicine. Hallmark (JB triangle) BRONZE on the edge. Superb. Henri Bouchard, born in 1875 in Dijon, was a sculptor and engraver, and winner of the Grand Prix de Rome in 1901. He took part in the 1925 International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts. From 1928 to 1929, he was a lecturer at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs; then, from 1929 to 1945, he became a lecturer and head of workshop at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. A member of the ‘Collaboration’ group, he was recognised as a collaborator at the time of the Liberation (case closed). He produced a large body of work, which can be seen at the Museum of Dijon or in Roubaix (at La Piscine in Roubaix, where his museum has been relocated).
