Frantz Jourdain (1847–1935) was a French architect and art critic, renowned for being one of the most ardent advocates of Art Nouveau in France. His architectural masterpiece remains the La Samaritaine department store in Paris, for which he designed the bold metal structure and the colourful façade of enamelled lava. An innovative and committed figure, he also founded the Salon d’Automne in 1903, a crucial exhibition space for the emergence of avant-garde movements such as Fauvism and Cubism
