A genius engraver and draughtsman of the 17th century, Jacques Callot was originally from Nancy. After training in Italy, where he perfected the art of etching, he returned to settle at the ducal court of Lorraine, where he produced the core of his body of work. A first-hand witness to the ravages of the Thirty Years’ War, which ravaged his homeland, this master of the miniature immortalised the history of Lorraine through a series of masterful and poignant prints such as “The Misery and Misfortunes of War”
