FRANCE - FRANCE MEDALS - Hospitals and medicine. Medal depicting Jean Fernel, Ambroise Paré and the Academy and School of Surgery, designed by N. Gatteaux 1774–1794 (minted in the early 19th century), Paris. MdP 1828, 5 (obverse) and 4 (reverse) – MdP F.10; Copper – 97.62 g – 59.5 mm – 12 h Hybrid medal; the obverse commemorates the prize awarded by the Paris School of Medicine in Year VI, whilst the reverse commemorates the inauguration of the School of Surgery in 1774 (portrait of Louis XVI by Duvivier on the obverse). Almost Superb.
