FRANCE - FRANCE MEDALS - Various themes. Medal commemorating the pacification of Morocco by Captain H. de Bournazel, by H. Bouchard, undated (1939), Paris. Bouchard 1975, 41 – Ruedas 81 – MdP.M1157; Bronze – 93.50 g – 58.5 mm – 12 h Hallmark (horn) BRONZE on the edge. Superb condition. The young Henri de Bournazel (1898–1933), son of a colonel in the Army of the Orient, was eager to enlist in the First World War. In 1917 he entered Saint-Cyr and graduated as a cadet in 1918. In 1921 he left for Morocco, where he commanded regiments of spahis. He died in the mountains of the Djebel Saghro, a Berber region in southern Morocco, in 1933. Between the 1930s and 1950s, he became the subject of a veritable patriotic cult, and for some he became the model of the young officer
