The Svetlana was a protected cruiser of the Imperial Russian Navy, laid down in France at the Chantiers de la Méditerranée shipyard in Le Havre in 1895 and designed to also serve as a state yacht for Grand Duke Alexei Alexandrovich. With a displacement of approximately 3,900 tonnes, this elegant and fast vessel combined an armament of six 152 mm guns with luxurious imperial quarters richly decorated with wood panelling. Its history came to a tragic end on 28 May 1905 during the Russo-Japanese War, when it was sunk by the Japanese fleet at the Battle of Tsushima after having exhausted all its ammunition
