Description
GAULE - CELTIC
Ambiens. Bronze with facing boars, Class II, var. 2 ND (second third of the 1st century BC and pre-Augustaean period).
LT.8518 - DT.464 - Scheers 416 ; Bronze - 2.86 g - 16 mm - 11 h
Magnificent specimen, all the details of the engraving came to the striking. Superb.
The theme of leaning or alternating animals (series 52) is repeated with horses, wild boars, wolves or even oxen. This variety with two boars offers a very harmonious and balanced composition, with motifs of strong symbolic value; the bucrane in front and the animal without front legs with the head turned upside down (which can be found, for example, in front of the portraits in the DT.385-386 bronzes).
