The Battle of Isly, which took place on 14 August 1844, saw Marshal Bugeaud's French troops crush the army of the Moroccan Sultan Moulay Abderrahmane for having supported Abd el-Kader's resistance. This decisive victory enabled France to secure its conquests in Algeria while imposing the Treaty of Tangiers on Morocco, which marked the end of Moroccan aid to Algerian insurgents.
