Description
ALGÉRIE - ALGERIA IVth Republic (1947-1958). Medal, Charles de Foucauld, by D. Anastase ND (1954), Paris. Esc - - Ruedas 71 - MdP.M1863 ; Bronze - 126,67 g - 68 mm - 12 h From an iNumis auction on 5 December 2018, No. 75, then from the Pierre-René Bauquis collection. Hallmark BRONZE on the edge. Superb. Charles de Foucauld moved to Béni Abbès in the Algerian Sahara to found a new congregation, but no one joined him. He lived with the Berbers and developed a new style of apostolate, seeking to preach not by words but by example. For more than twelve years, he studied Tuareg culture and published the first Tuareg-French dictionary. On 1 December 1916, Charles de Foucauld was murdered outside his hermitage. He was soon considered a saint. Foucauld was declared venerable on 24 April 2001 by John Paul II, then blessed on 13 November 2005 by Benedict XVI.
