Description
FRANCE / CAPETIANS - FRANCE / ROYAL
François II (1559-1560). Token, coronation of the king in Reims on 17 September 1559.
Sb.2 ; Silver - 3.81 g - 25 mm - 12 h
A scratch in front of the portrait. With a nice grey patina. TTB+.
This rare token is the only representation of the young king François II, who died prematurely, by Claude de Héry. It is the second token made for the royal coronation, after the token of Henri II, which is known only from the two examples in the Musée de Rouen and the one in the Cabinet des Médailles. According to Le Blanc (1692 edition, p.269), this token also existed in gold, weighing a double henri d'or.
