Description
FRANCE / CAPETIANS - FRANCE / ROYAL
Louis XV (1715-1774). Coronation token, by Joseph-Charles Roëttiers 1722, Paris.
F.7898 - Sb.57b ; Silver - 4,88 g - 24,5 mm - 12 h
Very clean and shiny copy. Very good to very good condition.
This is the official token of the coronation of Louis XV which was distributed to the population outside Reims cathedral after the ceremony. The bust is by Joseph-Charles Roëttiers. Among the silver and brass tokens were gold tokens. A few rare examples are known, and our example could be from the Guilloteau collection, 1934, no. 740 (the photograph of the plaster cast from the period does not allow us to be certain).
