The Duke of Berry was stabbed on leaving the Opera on the evening of 13 February 1820 by Louis Pierre Louvel, who wanted to kill the last prince of the Bourbon race. In fact, the Duchesse de Berry was pregnant and his gesture was in vain. The Duke died at 6am on 14 February and was buried in St-Denis on 22 February.
