Fulgence Bienvenüe, born in Uzel in the Côtes d'Armor on 27 January 1852, was the father of the Paris metro, for which he designed the project in 1895. The first metro line between Porte de Vincennes and Porte Maillot was inaugurated on 19 July 1900.
