Description
FRANCE - FRANCE
Third Republic (1870-1940). Medal, French possession of Clipperton by the Jeanne d'Arc, by Mr Lordonnois on 26 January 1935.
Ruedas 60; Bronze - 46.28 g - 52.5 mm - 12 h
From an iNumis auction on 5 December 2018, No. 232, then from the Pierre-René Bauquis collection.
Marked (triangle S éclair E) on the edge. Superb.
Clipperton was definitively awarded to France against Mexico, by arbitration of King Victor Emmanuel I of Italy on 28 January 1931. The island became part of the government of the French establishments in Oceania (despite being located 5400 km from Papeete). It was not until 26 January 1935 that the French flag was planted there, after two failed attempts in 1931.
