Description
FRANCE - FRANCE Fourth Republic (1947-1958). Medal, tribute from the National Assembly to its president Édouard Herriot on the occasion of his 80th birthday, by Raymond Corbin 1952, Paris. MdP.M.1735 (obverse); Silver - 335 g - 80 mm - 12 h Marked (horn) 1 SILVER on the edge and engraved EXE D'AUTEUR 2/2. Repeat model. Édouard Herriot is the emblematic figure of the Radical Party and the guardian of republican institutions for more than half a century. Mayor of Lyon from 1905 to 1957, he established himself above all as the "President" par excellence, occupying the perch of the Chamber of Deputies and then the National Assembly on three occasions (1925-1926, 1936-1940 and 1947-1954). A true arbiter of parliamentary debate, he used his immense culture and moral authority to stabilise regimes marked by ministerial instability.
