Before becoming a poster artist, Raoul Vion was an illustrator who worked for many years on the humorous and satirical newspapers of the Belle Époque, in particular *Fantasio* and *La Vie Parisienne*. He created other posters, in a style reminiscent of his contemporary Jean d’Ylen.
As for this aniseed liqueur, it was produced by the Marcel Mourcas distillery in Carmaux in the Tarn. To evoke the freshness and vigour of the spirit, a design featuring the sea and this bird in flight was chosen. One might assume that the brand is playing on the conventions of absinthe and the representation of the ‘green fairy’, given that it was created at the very time absinthe was banned in France...
