Description
Henri Edmond Petijean (1844–1925) – Paris in Living Colour. Circa 1911. Printed by Lithographie Nouvelles, Asnières. 149 x 110 cm. Original poster, lithographic print. Not mounted. Condition A – minor tears at the edges. An iconic press poster from the Art Nouveau period, it promoted a short-lived newspaper that covered entertainment, shows and cabarets, as well as satirical takes on current affairs, not to mention photographs, making it a high-end publication. What could be more natural, then, for the poster artist than to depict an elegant, bourgeois woman enjoying her reading? In short, this poster encapsulates Paris during the Belle Époque.
