Andy Warhol (1928–1987) – Lighthouse Footwear. 1979. 114 x 76 cm. Original poster printed using lithography and offset. Not mounted. Condition A–, a slight crease in the top right-hand corner. Original poster produced in 1979 to promote Lighthouse Footwear’s snakeskin shoe range. The campaign was commissioned from Andy Warhol, who, despite being a star of Pop Art, was not averse to creating advertisements. This was a field in which he always excelled, proving himself a brilliant advertiser in the mould of Dalí. This is certainly the case here, with an extremely effective visual in which the reptile is the shoe; it is worth noting that, unlike many posters of the period, the artist’s signature is clearly visible.
