Louis Vallet (1956–1940) – *Paris Impur*, by Charles Virmaître, published by Dalou. 1889. Printed by Unsinger. 56x43cm. Original poster, lithograph, unmounted. Condition A – traces of horizontal creases. Virmaître studied the mores of Paris with great attention. Not only the historical or intellectual Paris, but also, and above all, the secret and licentious Paris. He wrote numerous works illustrated with drawings by the finest artists of the time, in which he explored the sexual lives of Parisians and the subject of prostitution. This is certainly the case with our poster, which we would consider erotic but which was regarded as pornographic in its day.
