J. Blain () – Air Vietnam. Circa 1951. Printed by Gaillard. 98.5 x 58.5 cm. Original poster, lithographic print, mounted on canvas. Condition A–, a very slight horizontal crease at the top. This poster was produced following the establishment of the airline at the request of Emperor Bao Dai. Four destinations were featured on successive posters. This is the rarest version, depicting Tourane – now Da Nang – in what was then still French Indochina. The artist chose to depict in a single image the coexistence of the two worlds: traditional Vietnam, with this junk in the foreground, and a Douglas DC3 aeroplane in the sky, to inspire passengers to dream of Asia and the East.
