A 16th-century Tuscan painting by or attributed to Andrea DELSARTO, known as Andrea VANNUCHI (1486–1530) Two studies of draped figures, c. 1550 Red chalk Height: 15.1 cm Width: 22.5 mm Provenance Liège, Charles Henri Marcellis (1798–1864), his mark lower right, Lugt 609 Florence, E.R. Lamponi, his mark Lugt 1760 top right Yale, Peter Joachim Fröhlich (1923–2015) France, private collection. Note: Similar to the works Andrea del Sarto produced during the first third of the 16th century, this previously unpublished red chalk drawing from the Tuscan school is a preparatory study for a supplicating figure which could not be linked to any known painting and which dates from between 1530 and 1550. Good condition, old Renaissance-style frame
