Description
Wall sconce with a console featuring ‘Boulle’ marquetry in brass and tortoiseshell, depicting interlaced foliage and lambrequins. It features rich ornamentation of chiselled and gilded bronze, including acanthus leaves, border motifs, shells and foliage. Dial with twelve enamelled segments bearing Roman numerals for the hours. It is crowned by a figure of the infant Apollo brandishing a flaming torch. Late Louis XIV period, early Regency period. Height: 82 cm (on its console). Width: 29.5 cm Restorations and later additions, including the movement. Provenance: - Purchased from the DUMARTIN Antiquaire gallery in Ligré on 27 October 2004.
