An exceptional Mazarin desk with a stepped top in veneered wood, richly decorated with marquetry featuring volutes, stylised acanthus leaves and floral motifs. It features four curved drawers arranged in two rows, plus a waist drawer framing a hinged cabinet. The top and its border are richly decorated with scattered flowers, scrolled panels and friezes of stylised acanthus leaves in the spandrels. It features a mechanism revealing a set of four drawers and a small inlaid writing shelf. The eight four-sided tubular legs, inlaid with leaf-motif clasps, are joined by cross-shaped braces connected by a crossbar centred with a medallion. The capitals and spherical feet are carved and gilded wood. Louis XIV period. Height: 81 cm Width: 104 cm Depth: 60 cm Normal wear and tear.
