Description
A so-called "Parisian" chest of drawers in moulded wood, featuring four drawers decorated with three rows of scalloped panels, the top two framing a faux keyhole. The side panels are decorated with fluting. Handles, lock openings, side panels and legs decorated with gilded bronze featuring foliage scrolls. Regency period. Height: 77 cm Width: 125 cm Depth: 57 cm Signs of wear and patina, minor repairs. Note: Known as the ‘Parisian chest of drawers’, this design enjoyed great popularity and was produced, with a few adaptations, for many years. Albert Maumené reports in *La Vie à la Campagne* that each of the thirteen pavilions at the Domaine de Marly, Louis XIV’s country residence, was furnished with this model of chest of drawers.
