ROUEN, early 18th century Crucifix on a pedestal comprising a faience base with a high-fired polychrome painted decoration of interlaced patterns, foliage scrolls, cascading foliage and rows of gadroons, resting on four lion’s paws. Christ carved from boxwood and patinated, mounted on a blackened wooden cross with polylobed ends. Height: 19.5; 32.5 cm Width: 27 cm Depth: 17 cm The 18th-century boxwood Christ is a later addition, with a few minor losses and restorations.
