Description
Antoine-Nicolas DUCHEMIN, active until 1761, admitted as a master craftsman in Paris in 1741, and Timothée DE LORME, born in 1663 in Rouen and died in 1751, admitted as a master craftsman in Paris in 1717. An important cartel clock with a violin-shaped console in so-called ‘Boulle’ marquetry of brass acanthus leaves, volutes and floral friezes, surmounted by the warrior goddess Athena. The multi-lobed dial in gilded and chiselled bronze, with twenty-six enamelled pieces marking the hours and minutes in Roman and Arabic numerals, signed and dated “DUCHEMIN” in “Paris”. Ornamentation of chiselled and gilded bronze beneath the dial, featuring a woman with cherubs, opposing volutes, shells and cherub heads. Movement signed “DE LORME”, in Paris. Louis XV period.
