Description
PARIS, c. 1740, attributed to the workshop of Pierre ROUSSEL (1723–1782). A substantial half-moon chest of drawers in curly veneer set within alternating fillet frames. It is adorned with rich marquetry decoration at the ends and on the front, featuring vases of flowers on chequered entablatures and a draped musical trophy. It opens with two drawers without a crossbar, framed by fluted-effect side panels, and rests on four tapered legs with delicate clasp decoration against a background of olive wood veneer. Gilded bronze ornamentation on the side panels, lock plates, pull rings and feet. Top in grey veined marble, moulded in a cove profile. Louis XVI period. Height: 89 cm Width: 129 cm Depth: 58.5 cm Normal wear and tear; handle reattached; cracks.
