A substantial flat-topped mahogany-veneered desk, featuring three drawers opening from the apron and resting on two base units with six drawers, flanked by two freestanding pilasters topped with a sphinx bust and finished with eight lion’s-paw feet. It features rich ornamentation of gilded and chiselled bronze on the uprights and at the lock openings, depicting the Renommées. The top is fitted with a writing tablet in green leather, embossed with a small frieze of a post and surrounded by a moulding. Late 19th-century Empire style. Height: 77 cm Width: 181 cm Depth: 100 cm Signs of wear and a few minor losses, with some veneer chips.
