H. 65 x W. 81 cm Note: This work by the French painter Henri Ferdinand Bellan (1870–1922) bears witness to one of the most significant events of the Third Republic. Paul Cambon regarded Félix Faure as the first of the presidents of the Third Republic to have a very clear understanding of his role in terms of national foreign policy. He told Le Gall: “The Constitution has made the President of the Republic the true director of our foreign interests… Félix Faure truly understood this aspect of his role… It is the President of the Republic who is the master of France’s foreign policy.”
