19th-century COLONIAL WORK – Possibly from PONDICHERY under French rule.
Large bench in moulded, blackened wood with rich gilded decoration and mother-of-pearl inlays. The backrest, decorated with large scrolls, is supported by three openwork panels and joins the armrests in a curving line.
It rests on four large baluster legs finished with castors.
The seat and armrests are fully cane-woven.
Napoleon III period.
