FRANCE, 19th century A pair of swivel armchairs, known as ‘ocean liner’ chairs, in moulded mahogany with a carved panel on the backrest. The black-patinated cast-iron tripod base is decorated with foliage scrolls and rests on a circular wooden base. Height: 87 cm Diameter: 42 cm (seat). Provenance: Our armchairs come directly from the ocean liner LA BRETAGNE, which entered service in August 1886 on the Le Havre–New York route.
